The snow is piling up everywhere, even after the two melts we’ve had. This winter we’ve cleared off the roof twice.I think the total for the season is near 140 inches, which is about at third place in the records. Today another system is here and it has been snowing steadily all day and expected to continue tomorrow. 

Winter sports enthusiasts are apparently happy and the CanAm dog sled races are underway. If you’d like to see what’s going on there, visit their site http://can-am.sjv.net . Not the prettiest site, but has lots of information and maps.

As promised, I’ve set up a testing ground for themes I’m working on in 2.3.  It’s located at www.dubbahdesign.com/wordpress/ and it will soon has a theme chooser plugged in a few themes to look at. Have patience, I’ve had a busy week.

For Wordpress fans out there: if you’re thinking of upgrading to version 2.3, keep in mind that you’ll need to use Firefox or any browser other than IE.  The reason: the text editor will lose images if you use IE. It’s fine in other browsers. This blog runs on 2.2.1 but I shall be launching a section on this site for testing themes in 2.3. I’ll be installing a separate WP version for this purpose. I’ve been trying to work on a few new themes - in between priority jobs.

Of particular interest to me lately are the magazine type themes of Darren Hoyt and Justin Tadlock. They know their way around the code and have developed some nice multiple loop style themes. This proves just how cool Wordpress can be.

I decided to roll back my local Wordpress version to 2.3.0 instead of 2.3.2 that was causing problems with the disappearing images issue. I read at the WP forums that it wasn’t happening in 2.3.0. Well, it is. But, it only happens if you use IE. So, I’ll use Firefox and will have to inform any clients to do the same if that’s the version they want to use. Not a big deal, but I still hope this is fixed.

I’ve decided to bite the bullet and install Wordpress 2.3.2 on my local testing server so I can develop some themes and update some others. It’s been awhile since I had done this, so it took a bit of minor hair pulling to go thru it again. Nothing major, just my memory lapses. But, after all that, I found a bug in the darn thing that has not been resolved and I don’t know when it will be. Others have found it, too, and it doesn’t look like much satisfaction is being handed out over at the dot org forums. Read the rest of this entry »
