Testing area 2.3

February 23rd, 2008 by Robyn

As promised, I’ve set up a testing ground for themes I’m working on in 2.3.  It’s located at www.dubbahdesign.com/wordpress/ and it will soon has a theme chooser plugged in a few themes to look at. Have patience, I’ve had a busy week.

Wordpress 2.3

February 14th, 2008 by Robyn

For Wordpress fans out there: if you’re thinking of upgrading to version 2.3, keep in mind that you’ll need to use Firefox or any browser other than IE.  The reason: the text editor will lose images if you use IE. It’s fine in other browsers. This blog runs on 2.2.1 but I shall be launching a section on this site for testing themes in 2.3. I’ll be installing a separate WP version for this purpose. I’ve been trying to work on a few new themes - in between priority jobs.

Of particular interest to me lately are the magazine type themes of Darren Hoyt and Justin Tadlock. They know their way around the code and have developed some nice multiple loop style themes. This proves just how cool Wordpress can be.

Record Snow

February 14th, 2008 by Robyn

I guess it’s not just the huge mountains of snow in my yard. The official word is that we have indeed had record snow in northern Maine.

Southern Maine, however, has had its share of really nasty mixed precipitation which is far worse than snow, imo.

We’ve still got more winter to go and if we continue to get snow, we may just get up to the phone wires.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 Install Nightmare

January 18th, 2008 by Robyn

October 2009 Update: I’ve since installed CS3 on Vista and that has its own set of issues. The obvious is that you need to run as administrator. But there’s also sometimes an issue with a dll that will end up giving you “Error 2738 - unable to install.” To fix that, you need to open a cmd prompt as administrator. In Vista, you do this by clicking the start button (the round windows button lower left of your screen). Then, All Programs, then click Accessories. Right-click Command Prompt, and click “Run as Administrator.”  In the black dos-looking command prompt window, type:   regsvr32 vbscript.dll   (note the space in the middle) and hit your Enter key. When it’s done in a few seconds, close the window and try running the installation program again.

Back to original post about installation on XP stopping prematurely….

If you’ve found this in your desparate search for answers to why your upgrade to Dreamweaver CS3 just won’t install on XP, congratulations. I wish I’d found it myself. I tried all sorts of searches at Adobe and at their Forum but it took a call to the Support folks to find the right Tech Note … and even then it took some creative problem solving.  Update: looking for the technote?  try this: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402048.html

If you want to skip ahead and see what I think solved it for me, go to Solution 6 below. … Read on »

Wordpress 2.3 followup

January 13th, 2008 by Robyn

I decided to roll back my local Wordpress version to 2.3.0 instead of 2.3.2 that was causing problems with the disappearing images issue. I read at the WP forums that it wasn’t happening in 2.3.0. Well, it is. But, it only happens if you use IE. So, I’ll use Firefox and will have to inform any clients to do the same if that’s the version they want to use. Not a big deal, but I still hope this is fixed.
